Drop-Off Procedures
We have an excellent parent volunteer system that helps to facilitate the drop-off and pick-up procedures at our school. These parents work hard each day to ensure the safety of our children. Unfortunately, we have a lot of traffic congestion around Park School, especially during the morning drop-off time. The main bottleneck is on Elm Street, where we have cars entering off of E. Blithedale, and other cars going the opposite direction on Elm towards E. Blithedale. Couple this traffic with kids and parents crossing to school and we have a serious congestion issue.
To ease the problem, we’ve developed a simple drop-off rule of “in on Elm Street and out on Catalpa, Walnut, or any street other than Elm.” If everyone drops-off in a clockwise circular direction, the Elm Street traffic jam will be much less hectic.
Walking, biking and scooting
- If you can, please walk, bike or scooter to school. Please follow all safety rules of the road including wearing helmets and crossing at crosswalks.
- Bikes and scooters need to be walked when on school grounds. “Wheels up for safety.”
- Please refrain from bringing your dog to school. While we understand the joys of walking your dog, many children are afraid of animals. Most importantly, dogs are not allowed on campus.
Parking and Driving
- If driving, please try to carpool.
- In the morning, please pull as far forward in the white zone on Elm Street as you can. A parent volunteer will greet children as they exit the car. Please do not allow your child to exit onto the street.
- If you are walking your child onto campus, please park along the neighborhood streets rather than congesting the parking lot.
- In the afternoon, please pick your child up along the white zone on Elm Street. Do not leave your car in the white zone unattended.
- Once you pick up your child, please continue down Elm Street rather than making a U-turn through the parking lot.
- Please drive slowly and carefully through crosswalks and along Elm and Catalpa Streets.
- Do not park in the handicapped parking spaces, spots designated for staff or parking volunteers for any amount of time unless you fall into one of those categories. Finally, please do not create new spots where none existed.
Thank you for helping to make sure our children are safe.
