Emergency Plan
We are confident that Park School is equipped and ready to handle a disaster if one should occur.
We have a comprehensive Emergency Plan that outlines specific procedures in the event of the following emergencies: earthquake, fire, and intruder. Each staff member is assigned a task that they will carry out in case of an emergency. These include: First Aid, Safety & Security, Search and Rescue, Command Center, Student Release and Volunteer Organizer. In addition, we have an emergency container on the lower yard that is filled with the appropriate supplies in the event of a major disaster.
However, it is imperative that parents have an understanding of the plan and our strategy for releasing students to parents. It is also important that each family is prepared at home so that as a community, we will be able to handle the situation. Below are some important things for you to know if there is a disaster during school hours:
-
a. Traffic will be a huge problem and roads will be closed to allow emergency vehicles to get through. Please walk, run or bike to the school, if possible.
b. We only release students at the Catalpa Street entryway. The front entrance and the Elm Street entrance by the garden will be locked or blocked off.
c. When picking up your child, you will need to report to the Volunteer Coordinator who will be at the Catalpa Street entryway.
d. Students are only released to adults that are listed on their emergency cards. We cannot release to anyone who is not listed.
e. We will certainly need parents to volunteer to help out in a real emergency. If you are able to volunteer, you can let the Volunteer Coordinator know that you are available and what type of skills you possess. (For example, if you are a doctor or nurse you will be a great help to our First Aid team).
