What to Do if Your Child is Sick
- Call the main office at 389–7735 and follow the prompts for attendance voicemail. Please call as soon as you know your child will be out.
- If your child has a fever, coughing, runny nose or appears to be ill, please keep your child home until he or she is feeling better.
- For conditions that are contagious such as strep throat or pink eye, the child needs to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
School Nurse
Each school in Mill Valley has an on-call District nurse available at any time. The nurse conducts yearly vision and hearing tests and works with the principal to ensure that any child with special medical needs is provided with the appropriate care at school.
Lice/Lice Check
Park has an extremely organized and dedicated group of parents who volunteer their time to check each and every classroom several times per year (bless their hearts!) We tend to find the highest percentage of cases after the summer break or any other school vacation. Therefore, each classroom is checked after every school break.
If we find nits (eggs) or actual lice on a child’s scalp, the child’s parent is called and Jennifer Doores, our School Secretary, provides directions for how to take care of the problem. In addition, Jennifer sends home an information flyer for all parents in that classroom. Upon returning to school, the parent should bring the child to the office for a recheck. If all is well, the child is ready to go back to class.
For more information for how to treat head lice, please refer to the following documents from the Marin County Office of Education.
